Before sharing these eggs with you, I should explain that no paint is involved in any of these
pieces. The normal emu shell has at least three major color layers that are revealed as one cuts
into them. The outside layer is usually so dark a green that it looks black. Beneath that is a teal
layer and then if you go deep enough there is a very thin layer of white. It is so thin that I usually
tell my students that they have to carve it "as if they were petting a butterfly with a feather."
